Leuprolide acetate is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist. It acts at pituitary GnRH receptors. It down regulates the secretion of gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) leading to a dramatic reduction in estradiol levels. [1]
